By Name

"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber. But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him, the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.' This figure of speech Jesus used with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them." John 10:1-6

"The voice of the LORD is over the waters;
  the glory of God thunders,
  the LORD, over many waters.
The voice of the LORD is powerful;
 the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.

The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars;
  the LORD breaks the cedars of Lebanon.
He makes the Lebanon to skip like a calf,
  and Sirion like a young wild ox.

The voice of the LORD flashes forth flames of fire.
The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness;
  the LORD shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.

The voice of the LORD makes the deer give birth
  and strips the forests bare,
  and all in his temple cry, 'Glory!' "

Psalm 29:3-9

"To whom then will you compare me,
  that I should be like him? says the Holy One.
Lift up your eyes on high and see:
  who created these?
He who brings out their host by number,
  calling them all by name;
by the greatness of his might
  and because he is strong in power,
  not one is missing."
Is. 40:25-26

     It struck me that, just as Christ called out the stars by name, and He brought creation out of nothing into existence by His voice, He calls me - by name. I am one of His sheep that He calls out by name. I serve a God who sees me (Gen. 16:13) and who knows me (John 10:27) and who "knows the way that I take" (Job 23:10).
